The watch word for Graceham Moravian Church during 2011 is:

"You are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are citizens with the saints and also members of the household of God, built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the cornerstone." — Ephesians 2:19-20

Reflections From Our Pastor

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ:

Greetings in this blessed season of Advent, and joy to you as we wait to celebrate the birth of the Christ Child. I pray that this Advent, God will "prepare the way of the Lord," in our hearts and lives, and in the hearts and lives of those with whom we share God's invitation and hospitality. Advent is a season of longing; we hear this longing in its hymns: "O Come, O Come, Immanuel," "Come O Long-Expected Jesus," "Savior of the Nations Come." The words of the Advent scriptures and hymns give voice to some of our deepest longings that only God can satisfy. Sometimes these longings are difficult to articulate and so we sing! Joyce Rupp, in her book, The Cup of Our Life, A Guide for Spiritual Growth (p. 38, 39), provides a helpful list:

  • Peace of heart and mind
  • Healing of old wounds
  • Greater acceptance of ourselves
  • Justice for anyone who is exploited
  • Discovery of who we truly are
  • Harmony with our families and our workplace
  • Wisdom to make good choices and decisions
  • Forgiveness of ourselves and others
  • Freedom from false messages of our mind
  • Reverence and enthusiasm for life
  • A willingness to hear God's voice.

What longings do you bring to Advent this year? The Babe of Bethlehem brings good news and fulfills our longings. Let us be still and know, this holy child delivered by Mary will set us free. Bring your longings and come. Come and sing. Christ is born!

Have a blessed Advent and Christmas,
Pastor Sue
